Robertson County is Storm Ready

We recently added Robertson County as the latest Storm Ready community in Middle Tennessee. This means that Davidson County and every county surrounding Davidson County is now Storm Ready, in addition to a few other communities. We now have 13 Storm Ready counties, two towns, and one university certified Storm Ready in our county warning area. Half of all Storm Ready communities in the state of Tennessee are covered by the Old Hickory office.

Greetings! I'm new to your blog, so I need to ask what is probably a fairly stupid question -- what does "storm ready" mean in terms of Robertson County? I was stunned when I moved here to learn that we had no tornado sirens in my vicinity.

Thanks, and glad I discovered your blog!

Storm Ready means that community has attained a high level of preparedness in handling a weather emergency. The criteria are pretty stringent.

Aren't sirens more of a product from 'yester-year'..back when most households didn't have air conditioning and their windows were generally left open during the warmer months. I'm not sure in a strong thunderstorm if we'd even be able to hear a siren...let us know your thoughts on that!

Thanks,
Michael D.

I'm not an expert on warning sirens. The best person to ask would be your local Emergency Management.
